Afrobeats star Davido has revived one of Nigerian music’s longest-running talking points: whether he and Wizkid will ever share a stage. On the IONWANNATALK show, the singer said a joint tour by the two would sell out every venue. He added that he would ask for about $500,000 per show to take part.
The comments, reported on Monday by P.M. News and DancehallMag, quickly spread online. Fans of both artists have argued for years over who leads Nigeria’s music scene.
Tour, Yes; Joint Song, Not So Sure
According to both outlets, Davido was confident a tour would work but less sure about a joint single. He questioned whether a song by the pair would automatically become a hit. As an example, he pointed to an earlier collaboration between D’banj and 2Baba (formerly 2face Idibia), which he said did not take off the way fans expected.
DancehallMag read his comments to mean that two superstars on one record do not guarantee success, while a shared stage show by Nigeria’s two biggest acts would almost certainly fill arenas.
Neither report suggests that a tour is being planned. No dates, venues or promoters have been named, and Wizkid has not publicly responded.
Moving Past Old Tensions
Davido also talked about his relationship with Wizkid. The two have not released a song together in close to a decade. According to the reports, he said the gap came from them being in different places in their lives, not from being unable to work together.
P.M. News quoted him as saying it takes maturity to admit that feelings have changed. He said he once felt the way some critics describe but no longer holds those feelings.
A Long Story of Rivalry and Respect
Davido and Wizkid came up in Lagos around the same time in the early 2010s. Both are widely credited with taking Afrobeats from Nigerian clubs to international charts and sold-out arenas in London, New York and elsewhere.
Talk of a joint tour is not new. In early 2023, Wizkid publicly teased a tour with Davido, which excited fans across Africa and the diaspora. It never happened. Since then, the two have swung between public friendliness and occasional online jabs, often pushed along by their fan bases, known as “FC”s.
A fee of $500,000 per show for Davido alone would make a multi-city run a very costly booking. Davido’s confidence that promoters would still sell out every venue shows how far Afrobeats has grown commercially over the past decade.
What Happens Next
For now, the comments are a hypothetical rather than an announcement. Wizkid’s camp has not commented. As DancehallMag noted, his fans have heard plenty of claims before and will likely want to hear from the Starboy himself before getting excited.
A shared tour of that size would also need promoters, both management teams and venue operators to agree on terms, routing and billing, so even a firm decision would take time to turn into dates. Until either artist or their representatives confirm a plan, Davido’s figure stays a statement of confidence rather than a booking. Flashinfong will report any official confirmation from either camp.
Why the Comments Matter
Davido’s remarks show how the two stars’ rivalry has become an asset of its own. Each still headlines major venues alone. The idea of them on one bill is a big selling point, and it explains why one podcast comment can dominate Nigerian social media within hours. Whether or not a tour happens, the conversation keeps both names at the centre of Afrobeats’ global story.
