Nigeria’s political landscape witnessed a significant development yesterday in Abuja as Hon. Bright Anokwuru was officially sworn in as the National Chairman of the G17 Group. The ceremony also inaugurated the National Representative Council (NRC), which has been entrusted with steering the affairs of the coalition and strengthening its role as a rising force in Nigeria’s political space.
The newly inaugurated leaders include Hon. Bright Anokwuru as National Chairman (South South), Amb. Nana Aisha Mahmoud as National Vice Chairman (North West), Dr. Oludare Atishola as National Secretary (South West), Cmrd. Jude Jonathan as National Organising Secretary (North East), Prince Ikokwu Ikemba as National Treasurer (South East), and Barr. Yahuza Hamza as National Legal Adviser (North Central). This diverse spread across the six geopolitical zones signals G17’s commitment to balance, inclusiveness, and nationwide representation.
G17 is a coalition of over 17 Grade A support group leaders cutting across party lines, with coverage in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The group positions itself as a bridge-builder and a new frontier for progressive politics, committed to advancing good governance, transparency, accountability, and civic engagement.
In his remarks after being sworn in, Hon. Anokwuru assured members and supporters that G17 would not be a platform for political noise but a coalition driven by values that shape leadership and strengthen democracy. He emphasized unity across divides and pledged that the new leadership will focus on credible representation and issue-based politics that resonate with Nigerians across the country.
Supporters and political observers alike believe that the emergence of G17, backed by its nationwide reach and coalition strength, could influence Nigeria’s political trajectory. With its new leadership now sworn in, the group is poised to shape debates, mobilize citizens, and assert itself as a credible platform in the country’s evolving democratic space.
