The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has declared that Nigerians, not political elites, will determine the outcome of the 2027 general elections.
Chief Peter Ameh, the National Secretary of CUPP, made this known in a statement on Friday. He noted that the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, made an impressive mark in the 2023 elections despite alleged irregularities by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Obi’s 2023 Performance Was a Statement – CUPP
Ameh pointed out that Obi secured significant support nationwide, even without state backing or control of political structures.
“Despite INEC’s flawed result announcement, Obi’s performance was unprecedented. In less than six months of campaigning, he won over 50% of votes in seven states and the FCT,” Ameh said.
He added that the former Anambra governor also garnered more than 25% of votes in 16 states, including strongholds like Lagos and Rivers.
“This was a victory built on people power, not political machinery,” he stated.
Politicians Are Losing Public Trust
The CUPP scribe criticized the political class for being driven by selfish interests rather than national development.
According to him, “The 2023 elections revealed the weakness of politicians who focus on retaining power without delivering results. Many depend on federal might, cross-carpeting, and manipulation to survive.”
He blamed the lack of discipline and accountability among elected officials for Nigeria’s broken political system.
“Governors switch parties at will, betraying the trust of voters. This political opportunism has deeply eroded public confidence in governance,” Ameh said.
Citizens Are Ready to Reclaim Power
Ameh praised Nigerian citizens for uniting in the 2023 elections to challenge the status quo.
“Youths, workers, traders, and professionals formed a coalition that proved the power of collective will. Nigerians are more politically aware and determined than ever to break the cycle of poor leadership,” he said.
He concluded by affirming that the 2027 elections will reflect the will of the people—not the designs of political elites.
