The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has been commended for prioritising grassroots development across the six Area Councils of Abuja, a move political stakeholders say is strengthening the appeal of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interaction with media and party supporters, former Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Mallam Abdullahi Adamu Candido, said the ongoing infrastructural push across the Federal Capital Territory has positioned the ruling party as the “beautiful bride” of politics in the territory.
Candido noted that the minister’s interventions in road construction, rural infrastructure and community-focused development projects across the area councils are gradually transforming communities that had long been neglected.
According to him, the renewed focus on grassroots infrastructure is helping to deepen political trust between residents and the federal government, particularly as communities in Bwari, Kuje, Kwali, Abaji, Gwagwalada and AMAC begin to witness visible development.
The Cordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in the FCT also expressed appreciation to the minister for deliberately extending development efforts beyond the city centre to rural communities.
He noted that the recognition of traditional rulers not only aknowledge theor role in Community leadership but also enhance collaboration between government and local communities into advancing peace, development and social cohesion.
The Cordinator said the minister’s approach reflects the broader vision of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose Renewed Hope agenda emphasises inclusive development and grassroots engagement.
According to Mr. Candido, ” by focusing on the area councils and integrating local communities into the development agenda, the minister is strengthening the political base of the APC and creating a stronger platform for the party ahead of the 2027 elections”.
He further noted that the growing support for the party is already ” evident in the outcomes and voter sentiments observed during the recently concluded area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory, which many stakeholders described as a reflection of the rising grassroots confidence in the ongoing development drive “.
