As Nigeria prepares for another crucial democratic transition, the nation stands at a crossroads where credibility, transparency, and public confidence in our electoral system are paramount. The search for the next Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must, therefore, transcend politics and focus squarely on integrity, competence, and proven patriotism.
One name that embodies these virtues is Professor Nnenna Oti, a distinguished academic, an accomplished administrator, and a fearless defender of democratic ideals. Her outstanding performance as the Returning Officer in the 2023 Abia State Governorship Election remains a watershed moment in Nigeria’s electoral history. Against pressure and intimidation, she upheld the sanctity of the people’s will, reaffirming that credible elections are indeed possible in Nigeria.
Professor Oti’s courage, transparency, and professional excellence resonated with millions of Nigerians who had begun to lose faith in the system. Her commitment to truth and justice restored hope that the power of the ballot still counts.
Appointing Prof. Nnenna Oti as the next INEC Chairman would not only consolidate the gains of electoral reform but also rekindle citizens’ trust and enthusiasm toward democratic participation. Her appointment would signal to Nigerians and the global community that this government is serious about credible elections, accountability, and the rule of law.
With her deep understanding of electoral dynamics, administrative experience, and moral fortitude, Prof. Oti would hit the ground running, strengthening institutional independence, advancing technological innovations, and ensuring that the voice of every Nigerian voter is heard and respected.
At this defining moment in our democracy, Nigeria needs a patriotic and principled leader at the helm of INEC, one who will inspire confidence and mobilize citizens toward massive voter registration and active participation in the 2027 general elections.
We, therefore, urge the Federal Government of Nigeria to nominate Prof. Nnenna Oti as the next INEC Chairman, as a bold statement of commitment to credible governance and a renewed Nigeria.
Let us give our democracy a leader who has already proven that the people’s mandate is sacred.
