…Launches Electric Tricycle Scheme
In a landmark event towards sustainable development and economic empowerment, Ifo Local Government has launched an electric tricycle initiative in partnership with Bristlecone THP and Turf Global Trading Service Partners. The initiative, unveiled on Tuesday at the council secretariat, is set to redefine transportation within the fast-growing community while tackling unemployment and environmental concerns.
The Executive Chairman of Ifo Local Government, Hon. Idris Olalekan Kusimo, described the project as a “transformative partnership” that reflects his administration’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and improved living standards.
“This initiative is a significant leap forward in our efforts to create jobs, reduce carbon emissions, and lower the cost of transportation for our people. It represents our dedication to building a more prosperous and environmentally responsible community,” Kusimo stated during the unveiling ceremony.
A Greener and Smarter Mobility Solution
With a population exceeding 500,000, Ifo Local Government is one of the most rapidly urbanising regions in Ogun State. The electric tricycle scheme aims to replace traditional petrol-powered tricycles with cleaner, cost-effective electric alternatives. The goals of the initiative include:
– Reducing operational costs by eliminating fuel expenses and lowering maintenance requirements.
– Promoting environmental sustainability through reduced carbon emissions.
– Creating employment opportunities for youth and local residents.
– Enhancing mobility with affordable and efficient transport options.
Strategic Partners Drive the Project
Three key players are driving the initiative:
– Bristlecone THP, a leader in last-mile sustainable transport, is supplying the electric tricycles and offering technical support. Dr. Habeeb Danmole, speaking for the company, highlighted the long-term benefits of the vehicles, including their reduced reliance on fossil fuels and minimal environmental impact.
– Turf Global Trading Service Partners, a consulting and business facilitation firm, coordinated the collaboration between stakeholders. Their strategic role ensured smooth negotiations and the alignment of goals across all parties involved.
– Ifo Local Government, under Kusimo’s leadership, is providing oversight, financial backing, and regulatory support to ensure the project’s success and integration into the local transportation ecosystem.
The electric tricycle initiative is expected to create hundreds of jobs, reduce transport costs, and set a precedent for green mobility in Ogun State and beyond. With strong institutional backing and a clear development vision, the program positions Ifo as a model for other local governments seeking innovative solutions to economic and environmental challenges.
